In recent years, the term Dark Mode has gained a lot of popularity ever since OLED Screens came to the Market.
Also, recently with iOS 13, Apple decided to finally introduce Dark Mode which should decrease the count of people using Jailbreak.
Because most of the time people used to Jailbreak their iPhones for the Dark Appearance.
And prior to this, many Apps like Instagram, Messenger and even more are enabling Dark UI for their UI.
It’s not just about the Dark Mode in iOS, that feature is also available for Android Devices, macOS Computers and even Windows PCs these days.
So why keep it on? Well, before we’ll take a look at how it works.
How does Dark Mode Work?
If you know a bit of coding then you must know about Hex Codes.
A Hex code is a 6-digit code that defines a specific Colour. Those Digits can be anything from a Number or Alphabets.
As in the Image, it clearly shows that the Hex code of black is #000000 and for white, it is #FFFFFF.
Now every time you Flip the “Dark Mode” switch on your device, all it does is Flips and exchanges both Sides.
In another language, it converts every White-Coloured UI to Black and Black-Coloured to White.
Well, there’s much more to this Topic but in this is just a basic of what happens.
5 Reasons to always keep Dark Mode turned on
Well, here are 5 reasons why you should always keep the Dark Mode Turned on.
The only downside to this is that you might get bored seeing the same UI it’s always a good idea to switch it off sometimes.
Reading Elements on a screen is something that we do every single day.
People have claimed that it’s easier for them to read White Coloured font on a Black Background instead of Black Coloured on a White Background.
Now, this might depend on you, try toggling and see what’s better for you.
Like in the image above, you can clearly see that in the Dark-Mode, elements like Airplane-Mode Toggle Switch looks more clear than the one in Light-Mode.
Most of the devices today have Black Bezels on the front, like the latest iPhones, MacBooks or even iPads.
Dark Mode on any of those devices Blends more with the Physical Appearance and hence it looks better.
Better for Eyes
There’s been a lot of debate on whether if screen affect our Vision and the answer is still Yes.
But with the Dark UI, we can easily Minimize this by just keeping it turned on.
Especially on OLED Displays, when it is on, many of the Pixels on the Display gets turned off (Black Areas) and that means that the Display will Emit less light
And therefore there’s less stress on our Eyes but still,Try not to look at Screens for a Very Long Time.
Saves Battery Life
Battery Draining is a huge issue these days.
Turning on Dark Mode turns off all the Pixels of the Black Area (In OLED Displays) which saves a lot of Power
It’s always a good thing to save some Battery Percentage %.
Elements look more Popped Out
As I stated above in the readability section, Dark Mode does make UI Buttons look more Visible.
And since the UI Elements look more Popped out of the screen, it will feel better using the Device, Trust Me.
I personally use Dark Mode all the time and even my Website priyamraj.com is now on Dark UI.
Do you like keeping it turned on all the Time? Let me know in the comments below.
